New Mexico Counties Ranked as Top Oil Producers

New Mexico Counties Ranked as Top Oil Producers

New data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration ranked two New Mexico counties among top oil producers in the country. Lea County was ranked second, while Eddy County followed at sixth place. New DataLea County produced 14.6 million barrels in January which only trailed the leader- North Dakota’s McKenzie County by 2.7 million barrels.  While Lea County does not have the highest rank “yet”, it had twice the number of operating rigs than McKenzie County and only shows signs of upwards momentum. Lea County’s production has tripled in the past five years and accounts for half of New Mexico’s total oil production. Eddy County is not far behind producing 10 million barrels. In the Future The Permian has been producing a copious amount of oil and gas in the past five years in Texas & New Mexico. There are key initiatives to maintain growth such as, creating more jobs and building additional roads and highways.  New Mexico thrives on revenues received from oil and gas, and city lawmakers need to continue to support and grow their fundamental industry - oil and gas production. If trends continue, both Lea & Eddy county are predicted to increase their oil production even further.
