New Mexico Oil & Gas Industry Gives Back to Communities
The New Mexico Oil & Gas Association (NMOGA) recently announced a partnership with the Albuquerque Community Foundation to create the “Brighter Future Fund”. The $1 million fund will be used to help increase statewide education in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), as well as support economic growth and reduce child hunger.NMOGA is a statewide coalition of over 900 oil and natural gas stakeholders, individuals, and companies dedicated to promoting the safe and environmentally responsible development of oil and gas resources across the state. While the oil & gas industry has a long history of helping fund state initiatives (in 2018 alone they contributed over $1 billion to New Mexico public schools and over $2 billion to the state’s general fund), they see The Bright Future Fund as a way to directly help communities and individuals. The foundation plans to distribute $200,000 annually through 2024 and will be announcing the first round of awards in January. Grants will range in size from $5,000-$10,000 and the fund will consider applications from non-profits and educational organizations throughout the state. Both the Albuquerque Community Foundation (ACF) and the NMOGA are excited to see the impact and opportunities that will arise from use of the grants and fully expect the fund to grow in the future.Applications for the fund open November 1st with a deadline of December 2nd.
