Success of Oil & Gas is Crucial for New Mexico’s Free Tuition

Success of Oil & Gas is Crucial for New Mexico’s Free Tuition

This month, New Mexico policy makers announced a plan to make tuition of all 29 state colleges and universities free for students regardless of family income. Revenues the state receives from oil & gas production are expected to provide the majority of the funding to make free higher-education possible. By the end of 2019, New Mexico is on track to receive $7.8 billion in state revenue. Historically, the state’s oil revenues have contributed to New Mexico’s General Fund, community improvement projects, salary raises for teachers, and other state education aid. Now, the industry is set to directly benefit New Mexico’s 55,000 students. A tuition-free New Mexico is only made possible by the success and growth of the oil & gas industry. The state has experienced billion-dollar budget surpluses from increased oil and natural gas production, and Chase Energy Services is committed to doing our part to provide prosperity for all New Mexicans.
